About payments on MadeMay

MadeMay is a discovery and messaging platform. We connect buyers with artisans, but we do not handle the financial side of the transaction.

How payments work

Artists on MadeMay handle payments directly with their clients using their preferred method. MadeMay does not process or facilitate payments. Once a buyer and artisan agree on a project, they arrange payment between themselves.

Common payment methods

Artisans may use a variety of payment methods including bank transfer, payment apps like Venmo or PayPal, invoicing tools, or any other method they prefer. The choice of payment method is between the artisan and the buyer.

Tips for safe payments

  • Discuss payment terms upfront -- Before starting a project, agree on the total price, payment schedule, and method.
  • Keep records -- Save receipts, invoices, and written agreements related to your payment.
  • Use trusted methods -- Choose payment methods that offer some level of protection or documentation.
  • Communicate through MadeMay -- Keep your project discussions on-platform so you have a clear record of what was agreed upon.

Why MadeMay does not process payments

By keeping payments between the artisan and the buyer, we give both parties full flexibility to choose the method that works best for them. Artisans keep 100% of what they earn with no platform fees or commissions.
