Cedric the Sage

Subject: Wildlife
Medium: Pastel
Dimensions: 12x18
Created: 2026

Cedric the Sage is a richly detailed gothic owl portrait inspired by Victorian portraiture, dark academia, and old-world storytelling. Dressed with quiet formality and surrounded by books, lamplight, and moonlit atmosphere, Cedric has the presence of a scholar who has spent a lifetime observing more than he says. His direct gaze and composed expression give the piece a sense of intelligence and authority, while details like the pocket watch, ornate clothing, and shadowed study help build a world around him. The contrast between warm lamplight and cool moonlight adds to the mysterious, contemplative mood. Created entirely by hand in soft pastel, Cedric the Sage is part of The Mourning Menagerie, a collection of character-driven animal portraits that blend realism with imagination, atmosphere, and narrative.
