Edgar the Omen

Subject: Wildlife
Medium: Pastel
Dimensions: 12x18
Created: 2026

Edgar the Omen is a gothic raven portrait inspired by Victorian portraiture, dark academia, and old-world storytelling. Seated in a shadowed study among books, an oil lamp, ink, and aged papers, Edgar has the watchful presence of a character who seems to know more than he is willing to reveal. His dark plumage catches subtle blue highlights against the warm lamplight, creating a striking contrast between cool shadow and amber glow. The surrounding objects and richly detailed setting suggest a world of secrets, correspondence, and quiet observation, while Edgar’s steady gaze gives the piece its sense of mystery. Created entirely by hand in soft pastel, Edgar the Omen is part of The Mourning Menagerie, a collection of character-driven animal portraits that blend realism, imagination, atmosphere, and narrative.
