Dorian the Scholar

Subject: Wildlife
Medium: Pastel
Dimensions: 12x18
Created: 2026

Dorian the Scholar is a refined gothic fox portrait inspired by Victorian portraiture, dark academia, and old-world storytelling. Surrounded by books, candlelight, and the quiet atmosphere of a private study, Dorian has the presence of someone who is thoughtful, observant, and endlessly curious. His composed expression and carefully tailored clothing give him an air of intelligence and quiet confidence, while the surrounding details hint at a life devoted to study and contemplation. Warm interior light contrasts with the cooler landscape beyond the window, adding depth and atmosphere to the scene. Created entirely by hand in soft pastel, Dorian the Scholar is part of The Mourning Menagerie, a collection of character-driven animal portraits that blend realism, imagination, and narrative.
