Vladimir the Nocturne

Subject: Wildlife
Medium: Pastel
Dimensions: 12x18
Created: 2026

Vladimir the Nocturne is a gothic bat portrait inspired by Victorian elegance, dark academia, and old-world storytelling. Dressed with the refinement of an aristocrat and surrounded by candlelight, moonlight, and richly detailed interior elements, Vladimir has an unmistakably theatrical presence. His sharp expression, formal attire, and nocturnal setting give the piece a mysterious, almost vampiric character, while the contrast between warm candlelight and cool night tones helps create a dramatic sense of atmosphere. Small details throughout the scene add to the feeling that Vladimir belongs to a world with its own history, secrets, and stories. Created entirely by hand in soft pastel, Vladimir the Nocturne is part of The Mourning Menagerie, a collection of character-driven animal portraits that blend realism, imagination, atmosphere, and narrative.
