The commission story

The client wanted an original sculpture that would become an engaging part of the surrounding landscape. I approached the commission by considering the site, how people would experience the work from different directions, and how the sculpture would interact with changing light and shadow. I developed the piece through a series of organic, nature-inspired forms, using cutouts and layered surfaces to create movement, transparency, and unexpected views through the sculpture. The design evolved through conversation with the client while maintaining the character and visual language of my work.

The outcome

The finished work was successful because it transformed the original idea into something both functional and unexpected. The sculptural forms invite discovery from different viewpoints, while the changing light creates new patterns of color, shadow, and negative space throughout the day. The result is a work that feels playful and welcoming while remaining visually engaging over time. Most importantly, it became something the client could enjoy as part of their everyday environment.
