Selected work

L'Innocence After William Adolphe Bouguereau

by Cynthia Kinard

Subject: Figurative
Medium: Oil paint
Dimensions: 49x25.5
Created: 2011

This is a faithful copy of the original using nothing artificial - just my hands and eyes. It is of Mary holding the baby Jesus and a lamb. The symbolism of Jesus coming to give Himself as the sacrificial lamb is touching, indeed. I created the wood panel on which it was painted, after covering it with many layers of gesso.

The outcome

I loaned it to the Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, NC, USA. A patron saw it there and purchased it for the church where it still hangs to this day.
