Ready for the Jungle School - Monkeys in oils

Subject: Wildlife
Medium: Oil paint
Dimensions: Dimensions - 20 x 28 in
Created: 2016

“Ready for the Jungle School” portrays a young monkey holding a feather while resting safely in the arms of an adult. Painted in black-and-white oil on paper using the dry brush technique, the intimate composition explores tenderness, curiosity, and the protective bond between parent and young.

The commission story

This original studio artwork was created using a reference photograph by Natasha Balletta. I focused on the contrast between the protective presence of the adult monkey and the delicate expression and gesture of the young monkey, gradually building fine details and soft tonal transitions.

The outcome

The artwork was selected as a Finalist in the 13th International Art Renewal Center Salon Competition in 2018 and as a Finalist in the 2018 Richeson75 International Animals, Birds & Wildlife Competition. It was published in the Richeson75 International “Animals, Birds & Wildlife” 2018 publication, Hyperrealism Magazine No. 5, ATIM’s Top 60 Masters of Contemporary Art magazine, and the International Realism book.
