Standing dead Linden tree. For the 2024 Open Art Biennial, artist Stuart Ian Frost has crafted a compelling site-specific artwork titled Equilibrium by carving into a dead linden tree. Using some of the city's doomed, dying trees as his canvas, Frost delves into the unique character and history of each location he works in. In Sweden, he has developed a deep fascination with the trees and expansive forests, seeing them as emblematic of northern landscapes. "Every environment has its unique conditions for vegetation," Frost explains. Through his work, he aims to honor the inherent qualities of nature's materials. By weaving in local stories and myths, Frost encourages us to view the familiar with new eyes, sparking dialogue about the evolving relationship between humans and nature.
